Virtual Big Band!

Hello to everybody!
I play the tuba, the euphonium and the trombone, I teach in a school in Switzerland, but I live in Italy. I have written the book “Playing the basses! A method to accompany easily with electric bass, double bass and tuba”, Bèrben, Ancona, 2006.
I would like to arrange some songs for big band , that I have originally composed for a few instruments and then record them.
My idea is the following: forming a virtual big band with musicians from several countries. Who would like to join in? You should be able to read easy scores and to record your performance in CD quality. It would be great if at least one member of every section could improvise. I would send you the scores in PDF together with the midi file of the song. Everybody can play his part at his place with peace and quiet (listening to the music in the phones) and then send it to me .
It is going to be a new experience and I think that it won’t be hard work for the single musician, but unfortunately unpaid!

music...But i would be able to play the parts i should if i could
listen to it before.I play Tenor,Sopran,Flute and soon i will start
playing Bari.I play in a little jazz band,90% standards,some rock and pop tunes.

hey fiorenzo, i´m interested as well in playing a little part in your virtual bigband
Unfortunately i´m not sure about how much time i´m gonna have in the next weeks for doing that... But I would be very happy if you could send me a score for tenor sax. I´ll try to record it as soon as possible. Would that be ok for you or do you have to get the recorded audio soon?

I play Altosax (best first), Tenor and Flute... can read anything...and improvise...

Hi Folks!
Just want to ask if it's really a bright idea to record instruments of a big band seperately.
Well its possible that I'm a big smartass, but i felt it always harder to dub single instruments instead whole sections.
Tight groovy playing and dynamic work seems impossible to me.
But thats only my opinion!

Thanks to everybody for your enthusiasm! I am still writing the arrangements for big bands, therefore there is no hurry.
But I have ready the parts for some little songs for four or five instruments: we could start with them to see how it works.
Ahoernchen is right, but in my opinion it's worth trying and the difficult tasks can also be more stimulating.

I think playing your own voice in a reed-section without hearing the other voices is resulting in cacophonia.
But may be things would work better by recording the lead first, then sending this to the other voices. They can use this record as play-along for their own recording to avoid problems of intonation and different phrasing.
Improvised solos should be recorded last, playing along the completly recorded arrangment.

Hallo,
das erste Lied fuer big band ist fertig! Es heisst "Tuba tabù" und dauert 4,5 Minuten. Diejenige die sich dafuer interessieren koennen mir nach die Partituren fragen (auch fuer Trompeten und Posaunen).

Wer macht denn vom Forum aus noch mit? Fiorenzo mailte mir, dass sich viele gemeldet hätten, er ihnen die Scores und das midifile geschickt hätte, er aber dann nichts mehr hörte (das bezog sich jetzt nicht speziell auf unser Forum).

Ich fände es aber dennoch gut, wenn die Saxophonisten aus unserem Forum Feedback geben würden, wie es bei ihnen ausschaut.

Also:
Die Baritonstimme ist in der Kiste und grade auf dem Weg.

Das File hat knappe 24 MB. Das macht die Mailbox von Fiorenzo wohl nicht mit. Diejenigen, die über keinen eigenen Webspeicherplatz verfügen können mir eine pm schicken. Ich teile euch dann eine Emailadresse mit, an die ihr eure Datei schicken könnt und ich lade sie dann auf den saxophonserver hoch.
